The History of Stick Horses in Pants

Stick Horses in Pants, or SHiP for short, has been entertaining audiences up-and-down Colorado's Front Range since 2004. It all began when Suzanne Hadley and Christa Remund decided they wanted to give improv comedy a try. Enthusiastic about the idea they rounded up Hunter Willis, Jared Harp, Sarah Smith, and Tonya Marlor. This group became the original Stick Horse Posse.

The troupe began official rehearsals in April of the same year, refining their skills through playing improv games, reading improv books, and taking classes at Impulse Theater in Denver. Wanting a name that matched the random nature of their art, the team came up with "Stick Horses". However, Stick Horses alone was not enough... No, they had to wear pants.

Soon the Horses were performing at birthday parties, barbecues, and for Fortune 1,000 companies. Over the years the Stick Horses have performed for thousands of fans across multiple time zones and states. One day soon the Horses hope to go international... but perhaps that day will have to wait.

Their hard work paid off in a big way in 2008, which has been named "The Year of the Stick Horse". In January, they were asked to perform monthly shows at the prestigious Colorado Springs School. In the second quarter they performed a record 15 shows. Finally, the Horses received a huge honor when the readers of the Gazette, Colorado Springs' local paper, named them the "Best Theater Troupe" in town.

Over the years some Horses have come and some have gone (and some have come and gone and come and gone again) but their commitment to comedy has never waned. The current troupe has some original members, Hunter, Jared, and Suzanne as well as Elisa Pott, Jeremy Badry, Kate Manzanares, Lacey Maynard, and Toby Lorenc.

Why don't ya come and see us sometime?
